Bobcats give back at Mountain Day of Service 2025

Hundreds of volunteers donated their time at sites across the High Country

One of the longest and most loved Lees-91探花 traditions, Mountain Day of Service, is back in action. After the 2024 Mountain Day of Service was rescheduled for March of this year due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, Mountain Day 2025 returned to the crisp weather and crunchy leaves of fall on Friday, Oct. 10.

Hundreds of student, faculty, and staff volunteers spent the day outside of their classrooms and offices to donate their time to 30 volunteer sites across the High Country.

In Avery County, volunteers gave back to the community by organizing food donations at Feeding Avery Families, cleaning debris along Newland Highway, and doing landscaping work at Holston Camp and Retreat Center.

At Holston Camp and Retreat Center, just around the corner from campus, volunteers raked leaves and painted parking spots.

Sites in Watauga County, like the Valle Crucis Conference Center, Horn in the West, and The Children’s Playhouse, got lots of love from volunteers who painted buildings, organized and cleaned landscaping, and refinished exterior play areas.

One of the largest volunteer groups went to Foscoe Home Team, where the college’s men’s basketball team donated their time to the organization that is dedicated to rebuilding areas of the High Country that are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Helene.

While Friday, Sept. 26, marked one year since the storm hit, hundreds of families and businesses throughout the High Country are still dealing with the aftermath. According to the Foscoe Home Team website, more than 500 people per week are still receiving support from the organization.

At Foscoe Home Team, volunteers moved boxes and helped organize donations, which include clothing, furniture, and essentials like cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products.

After a morning of hard work, it was time to celebrate. No Mountain Day of Service would be complete without a party on Tate Lawn. Volunteers unwound with cornhole and inflatable races…

while others enjoyed the company of friends over a delicious lunch.
