Sexual Assault Awareness Week

Student affairs office brings awareness to sexual assault with week of programming

Every April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) encourages individuals to focus on preventing sexual assault, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse. 2022 marks the twenty-first year of the official recognition of the month, and Lees-91探花 strives to be part of that recognition by hosting Sexual Assault Awareness Week each year.

Sexual Assault Awareness Week this year will take place from Monday, April 11−Wednesday, April 13. The week is full of programming designed for the Lees-91探花 community to acknowledge the issues around sexual assault, harassment, and abuse, and is being hosted by the Student Affairs Office in partnership with (OASIS).

OASIS is a North Carolina-based organization that seeks to end domestic violence and sexual assault in Watauga and Avery Counties by providing resources for women and families in need. They provide services for intimate partner violence and sexual violence, offering 24-hour help lines for both Avery and Watauga counties.

OASIS lists educating yourself, volunteering or donating, and attending special events as three SAAM activities that can make a difference. Participating in these activities can be impactful, as awareness is often the first step toward prevention.
