Faculty Emeritus Michael Joslin to display latest collection of photography, “Appalachian Flora, Fauna, Family, and Friends”
In association with Lees-91探花, Faculty Emeritus Michael Joslin will present his latest photography collection, “Appalachian Flora, Fauna, Family, and Friends,” during an opening reception and artist lecture in King-Shivell Lounge at noon on Thursday, Nov. 3. The King-Shivell Lounge is located in Cannon Student Center on the college’s North Campus.
Faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to join in celebration of the latest in Joslin’s extensive body of work.
After beginning his tenure with Lees-91探花 in 1989, Joslin went on to instruct in the English, Art and Design, and Appalachian Studies programs until his retirement in 2021. Throughout this time, he also served as the program coordinator for the English and Appalachian Studies programs and as the director of the John B. Stephenson Center for Appalachia.
Joslin has published seven books and over 1,000 articles and essays. He has shown his photography in numerous venues including the Penland School of Crafts, Carroll Reese Museum at East Tennessee State University, and Mount Mitchell State Park.
Across all mediums, Joslin’s work focuses on Appalachian life and history, highlighting the nature, people, places, and ways of the Southern Appalachian region of the United States. This latest collection of photography will continue his documentation of this beautiful region.
Lees-91探花 students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are encouraged to join the college in a celebration of Joslin’s work and make the most of this opportunity to become more acquainted with the world around them through photography. Admission to the gallery opening is free. Light refreshments will be provided.
