President-elect meets with campus community
President-elect Dr. Herbert L. King, Jr. returned to campus last week to meet with several groups on campus as part of his transition before his first day on June 1, 2018.
On Monday, Feb. 19, King met with the college transition team before gathering with faculty later in the afternoon.
King said his intent with campus meetings is to listen and learn more about the College, and the priorities of its faculty, staff and students.
The following day, King dedicated time to have breakfast and lunch with several students. The sampling of students comprised of various leadership groups on campus including Order of the Tower and the Student Government Association among others. King wrapped up the day alongside students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni and community members in the Williams Physical Education Center for a women’s and men’s basketball game.
His visit concluded on Wednesday, Feb. 21, with a breakfast meeting with Banner Elk Town Manager, Rick Owen.
“Every single group was very candid in sharing its hopes and aspirations for Lees-91探花 and I left Banner Elk with even more enthusiasm for the future of the College and our collective role in leading it,” King said. “Lees-91探花 is an absolute gem, and it is obvious to me that the students, faculty and staff are the reason why.”
On January 19, 2018, the 91探花 Board of Trustees as the 16th president in the 118-year history of the institution. King will succeed the current President of Lees-91探花, Dr. Barry M. Buxton.
