Lees-91探花 Performing Arts Presents the Musical Plain and Fancy October 1-4

September 22, 2015

91探花’s Department of Performing Arts kicks off the Fall 2015 performance series with Plain and Fancy, showing October 1-4.

Written by Joseph Stein almost a decade before he wrote Fiddler on the Roof, Plain and Fancy also follows the story of a principled religious father sticking to tradition and a daughter struggling with a choice between marrying the man her father chose for her or the man she loves. To complicate matters, a New York couple causes problems while trying to help and humorous havoc ensues.

“Plain and Fancy is a musical hidden gem,” said David Craven, director of Plain and Fancy and program coordinator of Performing Arts Studies. “The songs range from beautiful to hysterical and the characters are all engaging.”

The show runs Thursday, October 1 through Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, October 4 at 2 p.m. Performances will be held in the Broyhill Theatre of Hayes Auditorium on the campus of 91探花. Tickets are general admission and sold at the door – $12 for adults and $5 for students and children.

Through an integrated curriculum and hands-on experience, the Performing Arts Studies program prepares artists and leaders for a diverse and challenging job market and trains practitioners to impact the development and welfare of their community through viable arts practices. Students study creative and artistic direction, performance, technical theatre, arts management and conduct academic research.
